SHERRY QUIAMBAO

Biography

Sherry Quiambao nee Paddon is a Filipino/Australian multi-disciplinary artist based in Boorloo, Western Australia.

Her work consists of photography, sculpture and installation. She is inspired by found objects, the sense of belonging to possessions and its effect on self image and status. Through found objects, she explores themes such as memory, her cultural heritage and overconsumption. She elevates common objects into a state of reminder, depicting the reality of a commericalised society.

From her Filipino/Australian upbringing in 1980s’ regional Western Australia - the 80's, an era filled with high-end media that advertised lavish, excessive lifestyles, the imprint of materiality has led her to experiment with everyday objects.

She grew up in country WA in Ngarda Ngarli Yarndu (South Hedland) and Yamaji Country (Mid West). She completed a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Sculpture) at Curtin University in 2003, followed by postgraduate studies in art curation and secondary education. Her work has been seen in solo and group exhibitions around Australia, the Philippines and the United States of America.

In addition to her art practice, Sherry is an experienced arts administrator, providing operational and financial support to a number of Australia's leading not-for-profit organisations, including Sensorium Theatre, Perth Centre for Photography, Melbourne International Arts Festival, The Dax Centre and Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts.
